Whatever the event, it is
important to secure as many of the services you need as cheaply as possible.
Try asking people to donate auction items or their time and expertise. If you
have an event in mind, please contact our Fundraising team on 0870 7700 325
for help and ideas and to register your activity on our events calendar.
Selling Climb Items
Sell Climb items, such as
Christmas cards and badges. Please telephone, write or e-mail with your
requirements. It is usually possible for us to send you items on a
sale-or-return basis. The items we have available vary with the time of year
but we usually have pens and lapel badges at £1 each. From September to
Christmas we have a range of Christmas cards, traditional Christmas puddings
and luxury Chocolate puddings available, all with the Climb logo on.

Encourage your Company to
Support Climb
Some companies operate a
‘matched giving’ scheme, allowing you to claim additional funds whenever you
fundraise. Don’t forget to take advantage of any schemes that your company
might offer. Perhaps your company adopts a preferred charity each year, so
please nominate Climb!
Many companies have a charity
fund so please encourage your company to support Climb as part of their
charitable giving. If you would like help in making an application, please
contact our Fundraising Team by post, phone (0870 7700 325) or e-mail (frg.svcs@climb.org.uk).

Plant a Tree
For £25 you can plant a tree in
The National Forest in association with Climb. You can do this for any reason
you like and for yourself or for any other person you choose. Whilst many of
the Climb trees are in memory of a loved one, some have been planted to
celebrate births, anniversaries and as a thank you for a kindness. To plant a
tree please send Climb a note of who the tree is for and (if you wish) why,
plus £25 and we will contact you to confirm and order your tree. You will get
a certificate of planting and an invitation to The National Forest to plant
your tree (usually on a Saturday around the end of March). If you are unable
to make that date you will be offered an alternative, usually on a Sunday
during the following November. Climb receives a donation for every tree
planted.
Legal Issues
Some Legalities
When organising Events and Activities,
please:
-
Make sure the Climb Charity Number (in the
format: Registered Charity No. 1089588) appears on all promotional materials
(posters, tickets, etc) which will need prior approval from Climb
-
Make sure your event is properly insured.
We have Public Liability Insurance so please ring us for more details
-
Inform us well in advance of the event as
we may need to take out special insurance to cover it
-
Do not pass the Climb logo on to other
organisations for use without written permission from HQ
-
State clearly on all publicity materials
‘All proceeds go to Climb’ or whether it is a shared event or for a Galaxy
Tribute Fund. Charity law is quite strict when it comes to specifying
how the money raised at events can be spent.
-
Use personalised sponsor forms, posters,
tickets and invitations – contact Climb HQ and we will ensure they comply
with current charity law.
-
Check with your venue and/or Local
Authority whether you need a Public Entertainment Licence or Liquor Licence
if the event involves the sale of alcohol, singing or dancing.
§
Please be aware of
and follow food hygiene procedures when selling food at an event. Always make
sure that it has been safely prepared and stored according to food safety
standards. Foods made with nuts, unpasteurised milk or raw eggs should be
clearly labelled or avoided.
Street Collections
You need to apply for a street collection
licence from your local council if you are collecting on a public
highway. The application will probably need to be made at least 8 weeks in
advance. Friends in Northern Ireland
and Scotland may have different rules so please contact your local council.
Do let us know you are applying for a license as councils often check the
information with HQ. Please note it is illegal to actually ask people
for money or rattle the cans.
Other Collections
You don’t need a licence to fundraise in
supermarkets, cinemas, theatres, shopping centres, railway and bus stations
etc as they are privately owned but you do need permission from the
business operator of the property and Climb.
Raffles, Lotteries and Draws
Full
accounts must be maintained for all raffles, lotteries or draws and must
show the amount of expenditure on prizes, printing, promotion etc and the
amount raised. The accounts and unsold tickets must be forwarded to
Climb within 14 days after the event.
NO LICENCE
is needed if you run them at your workplace/club and as part of a larger
event, for example, dinner dances, fetes etc so long as:
§
No cash prizes are
given, tickets are advertised and sold at the event, the draw takes place, and
winners are announced at the event and tickets are the same unit price
§
No more than £250
is spent on prizes. Donated prizes in excess of £250 are acceptable
§
Alcohol is only offered as a
prize if the event takes place on licensed premises or a local pub is
organising a bar at your venue.
You are
required to use the Climb Licence (THIS IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT)
if the lottery/draw is open to members of the public and tickets are not being
sold as above.
Promoter: Mr S Hannigan, Climb, 176 Nantwich Road, Crewe CW2 6BG
Climb is a Registered Charity Number 1089588
Registered under the Lotteries & Amusements Act 1976 with Crewe and
Nantwich BC, registration number 504
-
The above must be printed on all tickets together with the draw date, a list of
major prizes and who is
eligible to participate.
-
No more than 55% of the proceeds may be used for the provision of
prizes. Should the raffle/lottery not raise enough funds to ensure
that less than 55% is used for the provision of prizes then a full
explanation of the event must be made to Climb's Executive Director,
in writing.
-
You must have the prior approval of Climb's Executive Director to use
the Climb Lotteries Licence.

Ways to make a
Donation
Standing Order
If you wish to make a regular
donation to Climb (this can be at any interval that you select, for example,
monthly, quarterly, annually) the easiest way is to set up a standing order
with your bank telling them how much you wish to pay, how often, on which
date(s) and where to send your donation (see below for the Climb account
details). This will remain in force for as long as you wish it to and remains
entirely within your control. Neither Climb nor the bank can alter the amount
you have chosen to give. Please send us details of your Standing Order, how
much and what it is for (eg membership, a Galaxy Tribute Fund, etc). If you
wish you can complete the Standing Order section on one of our donation forms
and we’ll set it up for you.
Paypal
Making a donation can help us to
continue to provide these essential services
more - also see 'donate online' at the top of each page.
JustGiving
If you are holding a fundraising
event or seeking sponsorship, please set up a JustGiving web page nominating
Climb and your friends/colleagues/well wishers can donate on-line through
our Just Giving website
(www.justgiving.co.uk/climb)
Post
Please make cheques,
postal orders, CAF vouchers or money orders
payable to Climb and post
them to Climb, Freepost CW329, Crewe, CW2 6AS
or pay them in at a bank. Please include a note to say how the money was raised and who it is
from.
Cash to the Bank
The safest way to get your money to Climb is
by paying the money into your nearest Co-op or Barclays Bank, making the
paying-in slip out to Climb:
