Jamie Stewart

Jamie Thomas Stewart

18 January 1993 – 7 February 2007

Born a healthy baby, Jamie had taken ill just before his first birthday.  After recovering from the unknown illness, Jamie wasn’t the same.  He suffered from poor muscle tone, co-ordination problems and anxiety, to name but a few.  Through the years with much persistence, Jamie had to see a handful of different consultants but was never given a diagnosis.  With his disabilities it never blunted his enthusiasm for life and he never complained.

Jamie had a great sense of humour, a gentle nature where he loved cuddles and kisses.  He was also very friendly, polite, likeable and loved.  He was popular and handsome and had the most beautiful big, blue eyes and a smile that would melt your heart.  At bedtime he always said that he loved us and we always said we loved him too.

Jamie had a big love of football.  He supported Aberdeen and Manchester United football clubs.  He also enjoyed playing football in the back garden, playing board games, especially snakes and ladders and he was never far away from his Play Station.  Whatever activity Jamie took part in, eg sports day, you could see the determination he had and he always had fun whether he was first or last.

At the end of March 2006 Jamie came home from school ill and was transferred to hospital by our doctor, where he went through a lot of tests for nine months.  Eventually, through a muscle biopsy, the consultants gave us a diagnosis of Mitochondria Respiratory Complex I.  That was December 2006.  The genetic doctor also told us that Jamie's symptoms were of Leighs Disease and that Jamie's genetic code was that he was the fourth person to have died from this in the world.

Sadly our brave son Jamie passed away in his sleep while in HDU (High Dependency Unit), Aberdeen Children’s Hospital on the 7th February 2007.

We received comments from the community that Jamie was an inspiration and an example to us all and was, and still is, very special.

God bless you, Jamie.

You will stay in our hearts and minds forever.

Love

Mum (Pamela), Dad (Graham) and Gemma (sister)
