Rosa Therese Haycock

08 January 2005 – 28 August 2005

After a normal pregnancy and delivery Rosa was born in the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton four weeks earlier than anticipated.  Everything appeared ok, however after three days things took a turn for the worse.  She became very floppy and her vital signs were poor.  She was ventilated and transferred to the Special Care Baby Unit in Sunderland where she was diagnosed with Non-Ketotic Hyperglycineamia, a rare genetic disease with a very limited life expectancy.  We were told that she had weeks if not days to live.  This was a complete shock to us as thankfully we have a healthy and very lively three year old son.  Two weeks later we took Rosa home and enjoyed seven months together as a family.  She gave and taught so much and we will never forget her.  In tribute to her short life we want to set up a Galaxy Tribute Fund to raise monies to support families and children with metabolic disorders.  We hope that one day fewer families will experience the pain of knowing that the child you love more than anything will be taken away from you.
