BEMIS Project (updated 02/06/2011)
In 2007 Climb started a 2 year project with Birmingham Children’s Hospital Inhertied Metabolic Disease Department. This research project included the funding Specialist Metabolic Nurse. The project applied for and received full ethics approval in the West Midlands which allowed us to distribute questionnaires and complete at home interviews which were completed by over 150 families.
This project is funded for 3
years by
Primary function to provide information on metabolic diseases to people from black and ethnic minority communities in
England Climb’s Bemis project will provide up-to-date information on newly filmed DVDs with world renowned specialists, covering specific conditions and issues
The DVDs will be accompanied by leaflets in English and Urdu for families to view at home and be empowered with knowledge about their condition and treatment.
The primary function of the leaflet being in English and Urdu is so that Health Visitors, Midwives etc visiting the family can read the same information.
What is on each DVD
Over 100 DVDs will be produced by the end of the project in March 2012 and we will translate the leaflet information into other languages where necessary. We are currently working on MCADD translations in Spanish, Italian, French, Portugese and Turkish (European holiday hotspots)
The benefits to Climb are many and varied but the major benefit is that we are reaching more and more families and adults and helping them to understand the diagnosis they have received
